PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissues supporting the pelvic organs (such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum) weaken or stretch, causing one or more organs to drop from their normal position. This condition affects up to 50% of women who have given birth and can cause symptoms like a feeling of pressure, discomfort, urinary problems, or difficulty with bowel movements. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing prolapse by strengthening the pelvic floor and improving support.

What to expect in physiotherapy

Your physiotherapist will assess pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, and the extent of prolapse symptoms. Treatment may include targeted pelvic floor exercises, biofeedback, manual therapy, education on lifestyle modifications, and strategies to reduce strain on the pelvic floor. The goal is to improve pelvic support, reduce symptoms, and help you maintain an active, comfortable lifestyle.
