OVERACTIVE BLADDER (OAB)

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Overactive bladder (OAB) affects approximately 16% of adults worldwide, causing a sudden and uncontrollable urge to urinate, often accompanied by increased frequency and nocturia (nighttime urination). While OAB is not caused by an infection or other obvious medical condition, it can significantly impact daily life and emotional well-being. Physiotherapy offers effective management by addressing pelvic floor muscle function and bladder control.

What to expect in physiotherapy

Your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your pelvic floor muscles, bladder habits, and lifestyle factors contributing to symptoms. Treatment may include bladder retraining exercises to increase bladder capacity, pelvic floor muscle strengthening, biofeedback, relaxation techniques, and education on fluid management and toileting habits. With individualized care, many people experience reduced urgency and frequency, improving their quality of life.
