BOWEL INCONTINENCE

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Bowel incontinence affects up to 1 in 12 adults and is more common in women, especially after childbirth or pelvic surgery. It involves the involuntary loss of stool or gas and can be both physically and emotionally distressing. Common causes include pelvic floor muscle weakness, nerve damage, or bowel disorders. Physiotherapy offers effective, non-invasive treatment through pelvic floor rehabilitation, bowel retraining, and lifestyle guidance. With a personalized approach, many individuals experience improved control, reduced symptoms, and a better quality of life.

What to expect in physiotherapy

Your physiotherapist will begin with a thorough, respectful assessment of your pelvic floor function, bowel habits, and any contributing lifestyle or medical factors. Treatment may include pelvic floor strengthening exercises, biofeedback, toileting strategies, abdominal massage, and dietary or hydration advice. Education and support are provided every step of the way to help you regain control and confidence in your body.
