Orthopedic Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is all about getting you moving and feeling your best.

Conditions we treat:

  • Fractures: Recovery after bone fractures, helping to restore strength, mobility, and function.

  • Osteoarthritis: Degenerative joint disease, often treated with exercises, manual therapy, and modalities to manage pain and improve function.

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: Inflammatory joint disease that affects the entire body; physiotherapy helps with joint protection, pain relief, and mobility.

  • Sprains and Strains: Soft tissue injuries, including muscle, ligament, or tendon strains.

  • Back and Neck Pain: Chronic or acute pain from conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, or poor posture.

  • Post-surgical Rehabilitation: Recovery after surgeries like joint replacements, ACL reconstruction, or spine surgeries.

  • Tendinitis/Tendinosis: Inflammation or degeneration of tendons, such as in the shoulder (rotator cuff) or elbow (tennis elbow).

  • Bursitis: Inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion joints, commonly in the shoulder, hip, or knee.

  • Plantar Fasciitis: Heel pain caused by inflammation of the tissue at the bottom of the foot.

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Nerve compression in the wrist that can cause pain and numbness in the hand.

  • Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis): A condition causing stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint.

  • Sports Injuries: Injuries related to physical activities, such as sprains, strains, ligament injuries, and tendon tears.

  • Postural Dysfunction: Issues related to poor posture that lead to pain and dysfunction, often treated through posture correction and strengthening exercises.

In a physiotherapy session, a variety of treatments may be used depending on the patient's condition and goals.

Here are some common treatments that might be applied during a session:

Manual Therapy

  • Joint Mobilizations: Gentle movements to improve joint mobility.

  • Soft Tissue Massage: Used to relax muscles, reduce pain, and improve blood flow.

  • Myofascial Release: A technique that targets the fascia (connective tissue) to relieve tension and improve flexibility.

Dry Needling or Acupuncture

Involves inserting thin needles into specific muscle knots to relieve pain and muscle tension.

Exercise Therapy

  • Strengthening Exercises: To improve muscle strength and endurance.

  • Stretching: To increase flexibility and range of motion.

  • Balance and Coordination Exercises: Often used for patients recovering from injuries or surgeries to regain stability.

Kinesiology Taping

Applying elastic therapeutic tape (e.g., KT tape) to support muscles and joints while allowing for full movement.

Electrotherapy

  • TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation): Uses electrical impulses to reduce pain.

  • Ultrasound Therapy: Uses sound waves to treat soft tissue injuries by promoting healing.

  • Interferential Current Therapy (IFC): A type of electrotherapy that helps with pain relief and muscle rehabilitation.

Education and Advice

  • Teaching proper posture and ergonomics, particularly for people with work-related injuries or chronic conditions.
